1. Service Classification: All India vs. Group A

IAS Indian Administrative Service

The premier service responsible for district administration, policy making, and implementing govt schemes.

IPS Indian Police Service

Focuses on law and order, public safety, and managing the state and central police organizations.

IFS Indian Foreign Service

Represents India on international platforms, managing embassies and global diplomacy.

2. 2026 Exam Structure & Marking

The UPSC recruitment process is a three-stage filter spanning almost a full year:

Stage I: Preliminary Examination (Objective)

Stage II: Mains Examination (Written/Descriptive)

Total of 9 Papers (1750 Marks). Only candidates who clear Mains are called for the Interview.

Stage III: Personality Test (Interview)

275 Marks. Conducted at Dholpur House, New Delhi. It assesses the candidate’s personality, mental alertness, and moral integrity.
